Through our investments we’re the country’s largest private sector employer, generating significant employment opportunities in rural areas. The strength of the Olam Gabon team lies in our expertise across the various businesses and global diversity across cultures.
We chose to invest in Gabon due to its political stability, logistics potential, favourable climate and thriving economy. We recognised the synergy between our objectives and those of the Republic’s “Emerging Gabon” strategic plan (PSGE), in particular a commitment to sustainable development.
The Republic of Gabon is keen to develop a local agricultural economy (around 60% of food is imported), diversify from fossil fuel exports, create employment and reduce poverty (approximately 33% of people live at or below the poverty line). We continue to support these objectives.
The Gabon Special Economic Zone has become the flagship business in ARISE. The site is 1,126 hectares, and has over 80 investors from 18 nationalities and 15 producing industries.
The Gabon Fertiliser Company is an 80:20 joint venture between Olam and the Republic of Gabon respectively. It was set up to build a urea-ammonia fertiliser plant of 1.3 million tonnes per annum capacity to support the country’s aspirations around the promotion of agriculture.
Sotrader is a smallholder co-operative programme operating under the banner GRAINE. It’s a 49:51 joint venture between Olam and the Republic of Gabon respectively, and focuses on addressing food security and reducing the cost of importing food, by helping farmers to grow their own and supporting the creation of cooperatives.
Whether it’s a seasonal or a permanent position you’re interested in, we seek talented individuals to join our team and offer a range of opportunities to grow – no pun intended!
